In the past, the machinery cleaning process<\/strong> was extremely complicated. Pipes and components had to be disassembled and washed by hand, a demanding activity which, despite the amount of time involved, was not an absolute guarantee of quality sanitation. With the advent of technology, the process has become increasingly automated, moving today from COP<\/strong> (Cleaning-Out-Place<\/strong>) to the more advanced CIP<\/strong> (Cleaning-In-Place<\/strong>)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The CIP<\/strong><\/a> allows you to forget all the cumbersome commands of the previous models, requiring only the preparation of the plant to be cleaned by means of a spray ball<\/strong>, realized with a practical hydraulic connection between the CIP system and the system to be washed.<\/p>\n

How to choose the CIP configuration that best suits the needs of the product?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

The answer to this question is not simple and depends on several factors:<\/p>\n

1) <\/strong>Automation level<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The CIP washing process can be automatic, semi-automatic or manual.<\/p>\n

The most recommended, thanks to its many advantages, is undoubtedly the automatic system.<\/p>\n

As the name suggests, the washing operations of this CIP take place completely automatically by means of pneumatic valves<\/strong> controlled by the control panel with PLC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The washing data <\/strong>is detected by a series of extremely accurate instruments<\/strong> including: a flow meter<\/strong>, a conductivity-meter<\/strong> and a series of sensors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The dosage of the cleaning products<\/strong> and the entire washing cycle<\/strong> are carried out automatically based on the required cleaning methods.<\/p>\n

The control panel<\/strong> can save up to 99 different washing cycles<\/strong> called \u201crecipes\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Prismatech Cleaning-In-Place <\/strong><\/a>system also boasts additional options.<\/p>\n

In addition to monitoring product concentrations<\/strong>, washing times <\/strong>and temperatures<\/strong>, they have password settings<\/strong> that guarantee safe cleaning and a complete washing cycle without the risk of interruptions for a higher level of security during the process.<\/p>\n

2) <\/strong>Machinery and volumes to be cleaned<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It is essential to evaluate the distances between the plants<\/strong>, the volumes of the tanks<\/strong> of the plants to be washed and the production speed<\/strong>. In this way, the tanks, pumps, pipe diameters and all components will be sized according to the flow rate and volumes necessary to ensure effective sanitation.<\/p>\n

3)Use of cleaning products<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Water can be used either hot or cold, caustic soda<\/strong> removes odours and colours, acid<\/strong> prevents the formation of mould, and disinfectant, in particular peracetic acid<\/strong>, sterilizes.<\/p>\n

For plants<\/strong> that produce fruit juices<\/strong> or carbonated soft drinks<\/strong>, a typical CIP wash could consist of a water cycle<\/strong>, a caustic soda cycle<\/strong> (diluted and heated to 85 \u00b0 C) and a rinse cycle with clean water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Milk<\/strong> or dairy product<\/strong> manufacturers may consider a diluted acid cycle<\/strong> in addition to the caustic soda <\/strong>cycle.<\/p>\n

For periodic washing by soaking <\/strong>or to maintain sterilization<\/strong>, it is possible to do a disinfectant (peracetic acid<\/strong>) wash which will be dosed in-line.<\/p>\n

For water producers, a CIP with hot water and disinfectant may be sufficient.<\/p>\n

CIP systems can also be used by producers of animal feed, dyes, perfumes and any situation in which there could be product contamination or variation of its characteristics. Based on the type of washing chosen by the customer, the CIP will be designed with the number of sections necessary for the preparation of the various agents and with adequate and chemical resistant materials necessary to treat it.<\/p>\n

4) <\/strong>Required Efficiency<\/strong><\/h3>\n

10-20% of companies\u2019 production costs are now invested in the industrial washing phase and is a figure destined to increase. Offering an efficient and thorough sanitation service is the purpose of the CIP cleaning processes.<\/p>\n

5) <\/strong>Type of heating available<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A hot wash<\/strong> is always recommended for at least one of the cycles and it is therefore necessary to heat the solution.
\nThere are two ways to carry out this operation: with steam <\/strong>or with electric resistance heating elements<\/strong>. The steam group<\/strong> is recommended for large factories, which already have steam available. For zones without steam<\/strong> it is more practical to install heating elements.<\/p>\n

Cleaning-In-Place<\/strong> is essential to guarantee a quality finished product and clean and sanitized machinery.<\/p>\n
